Indo-US nuclear deal will jeopardise nuclear prog: Joshi
Sunday, December 17th, 2006Bhopal, Dec 17 (PTI) Alleging the Indo-US nuclear deal will jeopardise the country’s nuclear programme, the BJP today said if it was accepted in its current form, the party will nullify the agreement when it comes to power at the Centre.
“We (BJP) are against the nuclear treaty in current form. When BJP comes to power at the Centre, we will nullify it,” senior leader Murli Manohar Joshi told reporters here. Alleging that Indian scientists were not invited for discussions before the final draft of the legislation was prepared, he said “normal bureaucrats” will not be able to understand intricacies in the legislation passed by the US Congress. The Prime Minister should address concerns expressed by scientists before moving ahead with it, he demanded. The US bill does not address energy needs of India. There is no guarantee of perpetual supply of nuclear fuel in the reactors imported from the US or elsewhere, he claimed. “You will become dependent on the US and it can stop the supply whenever it wants.” The treaty will also invite in-depth scrutiny by the IAEA and US agencies, he claimed. “Under the garb of scrutiny, Indian nuclear programme, including pioneering research carried out in the field of thorium technology, will have to be disclosed to the US.” Claiming that the US has equated India and Pakistan at all levels under the treaty, he said, “How can you describe India as a responsible state and equate it with an irresponsible rogue nation?” PTI . PM seeks Japan’s support on nuclear energy
Thursday, December 14th, 2006| M K Razdan and Ajay Kaul Tokyo, Dec 14 (PTI) Seeking support for India’s growing energy requirements, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today assured Japan, the only nation to have been attacked with atomic weapons, that India remained “unshakeably” committed to nuclear disarmament “at the same time”. In a thinly-veiled reference to the landmark Indo-US nuclear deal, Singh told a joint session of Japan’s Parliament (The Diet), “We are seeking Japan’s support in helping put in place innovative and forward-looking approaches to the international community” to India’s quest for nuclear power to meet its growing energy requirements. Then, in a significant departure from his prepared text, the Prime Minister went on to add, “At the same time I would like to submit that India’s committment to work for nuclear disarmament remains unshakeable.” Given the rare honour of addressing the joint session of the Diet, where some 600 Parliamentarians cheered him ten times during a 25-minute address, the Indian leader was reminded of the Japanese sentiment on nuclear weapons by the Speaker of the House of Representatives Yohei Kono, who said in a welcome address that India and Japan should work together for abolition of nuclear arms. Singh’s assurance on India’s committment to nuclear disarmament ahead of his talks with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe tomorrow is bound to evoke a positive reaction in Japan, which had initially voiced reservations on the Indo-US nuclear deal. Scientists concerned over nuclear act passed by US Cong
Sunday, December 10th, 2006| New Delhi, Dec 10 (PTI) Country’s top nuclear scientists have expressed concern over the provision in the Act passed by the US Congress to implement Indo-US nuclear deal that seeks to cap India’s right to conduct atomic tests.
However, they were of the view that the current legislation was meant only for the US lawmakers and the bilateral cooperation on sharing civil nuclear technology would be governed by the 123 agreement between the two countries.
“India need not worry about the legislation passed by the US Congress as it is meant for the US lawmakers. India is obliged only to the bilateral agreement (123 Agreement),” former Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) Chairman M R Srinivasan told PTI from Bangalore.
“We have to work for further negotiations on the 123 Agreement. If that is modified in favour of India then we will go ahead in signing the deal,” he said.
Srinivasan, now a Member of the AEC, expressed concern over the provision in the “Henry J. Hyde United States-India Peaceful Atomic Energy Cooperation Act of 2006″ which states that the U.S. Would terminate civilian nuclear cooperation if India were to conduct a nuclear test.
“It is impossible to have a minimum credible deterrent without conducting nuclear tests. But the bill indicates that the cooperation will be terminated if this is done,” former Atomic Energy Commission chairman P K Iyengar said. PTI

Tuesday, November 14th, 2006| DIABETES –ASSUMING EPIDEMIC PROPORTIONS GLOBALLY Fourteenth November, every year is celebrated as ‘Worlds Diabetes Day ‘.on the birth anniversary of Dr.Frederick Banting who discovered Insulin in 1921 .The discovery of insulin is one of the major events of 20th century which is very important for human beings on the planet mother earth. Fourteenth November also happens to be the birth anniversary of PT.Jawahar Lal Nehru, the first prime minister of free India, a great freedom fighter and a pioneer of non -violence. It is also celebrated as ‘children’s day ‘India, started by Pt.Jawahar Lal Nehru himself, he was fondly called chacha Nehru (Uncle Nehru) Diabetes has become a major health care challenge in India especially. It is a tyranny that India being the yoga capital of the world has also become the Diabetes capital of the world .There are at present 32.3 million Diabetic patients in India and the number may increase more than 80 million by 2030.This has assumed epidemic proportions. The situation world over is no less. Diabetes can be characterized as persistent high glucose levels in the blood type2 Diabetes mellitus (T 2 DM ) contributes 90-92% Diabetic population who do not require insulin to survive .They require greater control of blood glucose and more disciplines and qualitative life. Largely the symptoms are excessive urination, generalized weakness, fatigue, delay in healing wounds, increased thirst, weight loss, besides increase in appetite. Diabetes 2 patients get detected by chance and show complications involving the eyes, absent food pulse abnormal E.C.G as researched by (UKPDS) United Kingdom Prospectic Diabetes Study. Diabetic disorders are partly inherited and partly affected by the environment. T 1 Diabetic mellitus (T1DM) is a very slow immuno – inflammatory destruction of B-cells which secrete insulin in the pancreas. In this case the body’s immune system misreads its own B-cells and attacks them thinking they are aliens, 90-90% B-cells are destroyed before the T1DM manifests .Other factors contributing are viruses, environmental toxics cows milk and genetic disorders. The T 2 Diabetes mellitus is resistance to insulin action at muscles liver and fat tissues that are important parts of insulin, medicated glucose uptake and metabolism .Insulin resistance is further compounded by disorders in insulin secretion and blood glucose keeps rising. Insulin resistance can be attributed to obesity specially abdominal or upper body, sedentary life style, smoking stress, harmful lipids and genetic disorders. Those people are more at risk who have a family history are over weight and mothers with new borns weighing more than nine pounds high B.P and sedentary modern lifestyle. People in India are not usually obese but mostly middle aged ones show abdominal obesity .Lesser physical exercises coca – colaisation stress and regular consumption of fast food further to add to the problems. Obesity is known to be the mother of diabetes. Dr.Elliot Joslin father of Diabetes had understood the very importance of fat in Diabetes during the good old days. (T1DM) type -1 Diabetes mellitus in children accounts for less then 5 % of all Diabetics and T 2 DM usually in adults is the most common type. Diabetes as mentions above in major health hazard world wide and India International Association Of The Study Of Obesity ( IASO) , International Obesity Task Force and International Diabetes Federation, have concluded jointly and endorsed the fact that obesity and Diabetes hold the economic welfare health and social well being of every country for ransom in the entire world today. Obesity is excessive body fat enough to harm the body’s health .Obesity and Diabetes are very closely related .men and women both in all age groups are at a greater risk if they are overweight. The epidemic of obesity is expected to increase the number of Diabetes is higher than the projected 80 millions by 2030. Obesity almost affects half the males and 1/3 of females in an urban population. Obesity also contributes to the increased risks of a number of other diseases in adults like high blood pressure, heart disease , gall bladder disease , joints problem , paralytic attacks , respiratory problems , sleep apnea ,uterus and breast cancers . However Diabetes is the serious most consequence of obesity. Obesity is the major cause to the development of insulin resistance which leads to Diabetes, cardio vascular disease which accounts for 75% Diabetic mortally rate. Obesity evidently being the major reason for Diabetes is given lesser importance in the management of Diabetes. The deposit of fat around the stomach is a fact which increases the risk of Diabetes and heart diseases. It is very important to treat obesity even if the body weight is lower. Obesity can be modified and 60 % of Diabetes, cases could be eliminated if weight gain can be managed and prevented .Many international studies have indicated that weight loss should be the finest prescription for the Diabetes prevention and it can significantly reduce the risks and the development of Diabetes. The Diabetes management also involves life style changes physical activity, diet control and drugs advised by doctors. Weight loss must be the most important part of diabetes management .The new anti diabetic drug regime also induces weight loss f or improving diabetes. However drugs are not a substitute to life style changes .Life style changes along with dietary changes are very important for any treatment regiven for managing Diabetes and Obesity. Get out of the social myths about Diabetes because these myths like it is the result of past karmas is a barrier between the good health and the Diabetics. INDIA DEBATES-WHY SHOULD INDIA NOT GET THE PATENT OF “ARYABHATS” “ZERO”

This is a historical fact known and acknowledged by the world that India’s sage scientist ‘Aryabhat’ invented ‘ZERO’ ‘0’ .Zero is the most important part of the numerals without which the world cannot function. In the ancient times because of lesser population and pollution, the skies of the universe were free from the cluttering thoughts, images and sounds of the human minds. Indian sage scientists had direct communication with God the universal father and soul. During Narsimha Rao’s government in India in the early nineties ,one small town lawyer raised this issue when the government of India signed the WTO and DUNCAN arrangements with world bodies .His raising the issue of the patent of ‘0’ ‘ZERO’ of India stormed the country . The news was blasted all over in the print and electronic media. The issue created so much of heat that the parliament of India, the largest democracy in the world, was forced to take up this issue for discussion. People say this hot news reached the White House in America while Bill Clinton was the president. President Bill Clinton asked his secretary of commerce to urgently arrange a top cabinet meeting to discuss the issue. In the meeting the president asked the secretary of commerce to explain the situation .She said that the world acknowledges the historical fact that Aryabhat the great Hindu sage scientist of India had invented the ‘0’ ‘zero’ on which today’s world economies and science functions. Infact nothing functions without ‘zero’. The noble president of the U.S.A asked the lady, the secretary of commerce to express the amount of damage it could cause to the U.S.A if the Indians are granted the rights to the patent of ‘zero’. She calculated and explained that Unites States of America would be sold to India within a week of granting them the patent of ‘zero’ due to the number of zero’s U.S.A punches every second. The entire U.S economy of trillions of dollars will be at the mercy of the Indians in South Asia. All the members of the cabinet including the mighty president were stunned and stone freed for a few moments. The president asked the lady in a low tone what can the Indians do if we do no grant them the patent of zero. She replied Mr. President we are the mightiest super power currently in this world on the planet earth. The Indians cannot do anything if we do not allow them the patent rights of zero. President grinned and announced the meeting is dismissed and we’re not gonna allow them the patent ‘0’ at the cost of America’s future .Let them do what they can, if they can. Indians could not help it and the matter subsided. The truth remains that Indian sage scientist not only invented ‘0’ but also invented decimal and calculated the distances from the sun and moon and other planets in our solar system without the scientific labs and the telescopes ,but through there meditative minds.
